Latania, Latania lontaroides

palm of the family Arecaceae

Origin: Latania is native to islands Mascareignes (Ile de La Réunion)
Habitat: the latania appreciates a fertile or rich, sour, cool, very drained soil and a sunny position.
Height: 10 m tall.
Shape: upright, unique stipe
Right trunk.
Persistent foliage, big leaves grey-green, webbed fan-shaped, deeply lobbed in petioles tinted with red.
Flowers: long panicles in summer.
Fruits in clusters.

Propagation: seedling with heat in spring after tempering.

Advices of planting: as all palm trees, Latania does well in mild climate aeras, without frost, and not too much sun. It grows on the Mediterranean periphery, in greenhouse in the North of Europe, ideally, in the tropical countries.
