Conifer with persistent foliage, family Pinaceae (Cedar, Norway Spruce,
Larch, Pine, Silver Fir, Hemlock)

Abies alba = reddish-brown-green.
Abies cephalonica = cyan.
Abies cilicica = dark green.
Abies marocana = claret.
Abies nebrodensis = yellow.
Abies nordmanniana = purple.
Abies numidica = red.
Abies pinsapo = blue.
Origin : Algeria (Atlas).
Habitat: it tolerates the dry and hot sites. Fits to the calcareous stony soils.
Height: 25 m tall.
Shape: of a pyramid becoming dense columnar.
Grey bark turning to purple, cracking in scaly flakes.
Persistent foliage; shorter and denser needles on the top of stems, from 1 to 2 cm long. Gray-green on top. Greenish-white underside, with 2 stomatal bands.
Cylindrical cones, light brown with maturity in autumn, 12 - 18 cm long on 4 - 6 cm broad.

Use : ornamental tree.
